It´s the equivalent of the old "desapareceu" (a pessoa - pois supostamente e esta é a impressão de quem "was gosthed/have been ghosted" é de que 'está sendo evitado' de alguma forma. 'A pessoa está se esquivando')
The idea is that in a relationship the other person is not responding to your attempts to reach out or communicate, to know how he/she is doing (or even what´s going on), etc, you are totally in the dark, there´s no explanation as why that happened! That is often said of a relationship or event on social media.
