Significado de "Collateral"

Oi pessoal,

Estou com dúvida sobre o uso da palavra collateral, tem algumas frases que o significado de collateral (garantia) não parece fazer sentido, podem me ajudar, por favor?

Frases:

Are there any assets that are must keeps, i.e. Things we won’t accept as collateral in the latter stages?

On top of these pieces, we also want to walk away knowing what will be our potential collateral in brand definition as well as the assets that we won’t be able to change.
