This headline has a grammar point, "are" was used because it's a colective noun (a team).

Normally the verb used would be "is" (Argentina - the country), but here they regarded it as "a team", they considered the individuals in it (not a whole).

The second thing is the "treated favourably" as opposed to be "treated less favourably" - compared to the other team - Egypt. They argue was 'unfairly treated/given unequal treatment', refeering-wise).

Treated favourably - also can be find in legal contexts, everyday and general lingo, usuaully the 'nuance' is of giving the benefit of doubt or the advantage being unintentional.
