I was watching "Law & Order SVU" and I heard for the very first time the idiom "Out of the picture". I found it really interesting and I wanted to share it with you guys!

"With her husband out of the picture, she can begin living as she pleases."
Com o seu marido fora da jogada, ela pode começar a viver como quiser.

"With the national government out of the picture, local leaders will have to work out a solution."
Com o governo nacional fora da jogada, os líderes locais terão que encontrar uma solução.

Out of the picture: no longer relevant to a situation; departed; dead.
