já escutei uma vez Our flight is cleared for departure, mas estava uma chuvarada do lado de fora, então não sei se o comandante estava falando do tempo ou permissão para vôo.

O voo foi adiado porque estava nevando muito, mas no dia seguinte, o tempo estava melhor e o voo foi liberado.

The flight was postponed because it was snowing a lot. But on the following day the weather was better and the flight was cleared for takeoff.

Luis, Breckenfeld added to what was said (saying something not said in the original Portuguese), but notice how much nicer the translation sounds than mine. Breckenfeld gave more background than I, more context. It's a superior translation, in my opinion.

"Liberar" is one of those words with so many possible translations. Context is everything. I remember hearing it in relation to medicationsin Brazil; I understood what the pharmacists were saying, but I did not have a concise translation for it into English.

My attempts were only "okay". Each one, I believe, was missing something. That is what I meant about not being happy with them although they worked.
