As Donay has pointed out, if you are speaking generally of parties we could state them broadly as "The Left" or you could express that with "the left wing parties".
But to state that is an oversimplification since even in the United States (or any country for that matter), there are other parties in the left or right continuum.
There we know that there are two major parties (within they have dominant ideologies); but then, politicians may be conservantist on morality and liberal on economy, in a middle way about health matters, etc.
Granted, ideological conservantists 'supposed' or assumed to fall on the (farthest) right-wing of the axis of the political beliefs, according to convention. But in practice, it doesn't always work this way, then to some issues they make a bipartisan (or multipartisan) team to take a more varied and common goal approach/debate.
Precisely because sometimes parties in the Congress and the President are in conflict because of different political party beliefs, such gridlock (along with divisiveness) causes shutdowns. Or negatively impacts the matter they are trying to discuss.
