I agree with Paulo to a degree, but the very usage of "did" in the sentence would do the trick. It would suggest that either:
1)the time period is finished.
2) the information is old.
3) the result of the action doesn´t persist.

In the sentence "Have you already
finished your work?", "already" suggests surprise, that you didn´t expect the other person wouldn´t finish that work so fast! in Portuguese would be "Já terminou (o serviço)? (como se dizendo "que rápido, hein!" or "já?".
I would rather use "job" or "task" (mission/assignment) in this case, though, just one suggestion of mine.
