In my company we have a contest created in order to motivate the employees and to make the atmosphere of the company more lighthearted, where the first three people are going to receive prizes.

The first ranked earns a trip that can be either to Orlando or to New York, at discretion of the winner. The cost of both airplane tickets and stay are going to be paid by the company.

The second ranked earns a trip to the Iguazu Waterfalls and will stay in an awesome resort

The third ranked earns a dinner in a luxury restaraunt.

The competition's scoring system is divided in four fields: professional development (courses, lectures and so on), personal well-being (books, exercises, theater and this kind of cultural events), participation in social projects and the lastly networking in Linkedin.

On november the 30th the competition is going to be wrapped up, and it happens that I'm a shoo-in/hot favorite. I was in third place, but the first was laid off the company because we are undergoing financial problems and the second found a better job oportunity so as luck would have it the trip fell in my leap so to speak.

But I'm not sure I'm going to take the trip. Right know I don't have enough money to pay for the passport, visa as well as the expensive food in the US. I pondering about negotiating that trip with someone else or just settle for the second-place trip. I'm not so hooked on visiting the US, but it would be cool to get to know another culture and places.
