In the morning of May, 6th, the Hindenburg airship passed over Boston. The airship had left germany to USA on may 3rd and the bad weather delayed its landing at Lakehurst, New Jersey.
The cabin boy, Werner Franz was working in the kitchen on board Hindenburg and had been planning to visit New York before the airship returns to Germany, on may 7th.
In the meantime, the captain was trying to steer the airship next to a docking tower but suddenly there was a loud bang and a big ball of flame, which Werner could see from the kitchen.
The skin of the ship had broken and the hydrogen inside had been ignited. In the following minutes, the ship crashed to the ground and horrified onlookers were running for their lives. Meanwhile, Franz had opened the kitchen hatch where the food was pulled up into the kitchen and jumped. he had escaped and ran to safety. Ten minutes after the fire had started, there was nothing left of the airship.
