Diferença entre Above, On, Over e Up

Hello guys! Algumas preposições parecem ter o mesmo sentido, por isso alguns exemplos para esclarecer melhor essa dúvida:
above: acima(de); por sobre; por cima(de); sobre(sem contato).
Ex.: The moon is above us. (A lua está acima de nós.)
on:: sobre; em cima (indica contato).
Ex.: He put his hand on my my hair. (Ele pôs a mão sobre o meu cabelo.)
over: acima(de);sobre; por cima(não indica contato e é em relação dois pontos.)
Ex.: There was a picture over the door. (Havia um quadro acima da porta.)
up: acima; para cima; para o alto.
Ex.: This side up. (Este lado para cima.)

ABOVE x OVER
Above and over can both mean higher than.
The helicopter hovered above/over the building.
The water came up above/over our knees.
Above is preferred when we want to mean that one thing is not directly over another.
There is a small cottage above the lake. (The cottage is not directly over the lake.)
Above is also used in measurements of temperature, height, intelligence etc., where we think of a vertical scale.
The temperature never rose above 10 degree Celsius.
Over is preferred when one thing covers and/or touches another.
