Much x very much x many: Como utilizar

This may sound silly, but why can't I say "I love you much"?
I know that "very much", "so much" and "too much" are OK.
BTW, why saying "very much" is OK? Don't they both mean the same?
Is the much from very much any different from the much from much x many?
Hope you guys can clarify my doubts.
