O uso de any com Singular Countable Noun

O Free Dictionary diz que se usa Any com substantivo contável no singular.

Como explicar isso? Aqui mesmo vi que any não se usa com singular. O ebook da English Town também diz isso.
Eu já ia mandar o texto do Free Dictionary para minha turma que expliquei sobre isso uns dias atras quando eu vi isso que esta abaixo:

1. 'any'
You use any in front of a singular countable noun to talk about each thing or person of a particular type.
Look it up in any large dictionary.
These are things that any man might do under pressure.
When you use any in front of a singular countable noun or an uncountable noun, you use a singular form of a verbwith it.
Any book that attracts children as much as this has to be taken seriously.
