Qual o sentido da expressão break in nas frases abaixo.
1) I need to break in these new shoes. They're a little tight for my feet.
2) We need to break in the new guy. He doesn't understand the way things work around here.

É literalmente, "usar" algo novo até ficar confortável.

Na segunda frase, creio que possa haver alguma expressão em português, mas trata-se de "acostumar", "ambientar" alguém novo em algum lugar, e mostrar como funciona as coisas pelo lugar. Bem, a frase já diz tudo.

Neste caso,
to break in = acostumar, adequar, fazer cômodo (como o sapato que tem que ser usado um pouco antes de ficar cômodo)

Temos um termo coloquial aí, não? Aqui vão mais alguns exemplos. Os exemplos (inventados) pretendem exemplificar o uso do verbo frasal break in no que diz respeito a "entrar/arrombar ou forçar a entrada, com uma ferramenta ou não, num estabelecimento, casa, prédio etc., geralmente na calada da noite".
"What if my little, defenseless brother slept and this burglar broke in in the middle of the night?"
"This gentleman broke in while she and her newborn slept. He silently walked off with most of her valuables."
"Malaquias aka 'Picolé' broke in through a side door. The police, however, stood out waiting for him."
Please feel free to correct these examples.
But then, what could you possibly "break in," a horse? Name another animated object. Or non-animated.
