David Cameron has given his embattled health secretary his personal backing, saying he is "at one" with Andrew Lansley, amid speculation about his cabinet position and the NHS bill.
The prime minister said there was no alternative to the changes going through parliament.
But speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show on Sunday morning, the Liberal Democrat deputy leader, Simon Hughes, suggested the health secretary would depart sooner rather than later. Pressed on whether he thought Lansley should be replaced, Hughes agreed he should: "Yes … We need to be careful about the political sensitivities of this coalition."
