O nome "Big Wing" foi dado como uma alusão à uma operação tática de ataque aéreo executada na segunda guerra mundial por oficiais britânicos. O ataque era realizado com os aviões em formação de uma "grande asa".
Conceito de Big Wing: grandes formações de caças interceptando os aviões alemães antes que eles atinjam a Inglaterra.
O nome "Big Wing" foi dado como uma alusão à uma operação tática de ataque aéreo executada na segunda guerra mundial por oficiais britânicos. O ataque era realizado com os aviões em formação de uma "grande asa".

Yeah, I had seen that they also called ace pilots big wings, perhaps alluding that fact.
Anyway, something that´s something big in those Met operations, they are casting the net to get many kinds of fishes (many types of crimes, I mean).

Looks like Met´s meant business, it is not making "chiken wings" (small potato/unimportant) operations. Hence the "big wings".
Other interpretation could be that "wings" were some operations focusing precisely on some kinds of crimes, the ones that involves alchohol and women.
Or maybe the guy refers to estrategic thinking as per this site definition:

To quote my former business partner, Lora Cecere, she reminds me that organizations need big wings (strategic thinking) and feet (capability to achieve).
