Seguindo o segundo significado que o Henry deu:
- Um sinal ou um aviso que alerta uma pessoa para um problema ou perigo.
EX:
1) Prime minister delivers a speech describing last week's rioting a 'wake-up call' for the country and says ministers will ensure policies address the causes of 'broken Britain' (The Guardian)
2) The low test scores should serve as a loud wake-up call to teachers.(Macmillan Dictionary)

Bom, tem um sentido duplo. O pleno é de toque (de tel ou relógio) de acordar. O subtexto é de "aviso" quanto às consequencias de certas ações. Neste caso, pessoa estranha na cama deu tragédia.
