Gun control advocates 'exploiting' Florida tragedy.
Sometimes Portuguese makes puzzling tricks to our learning (pode colocar isso no departamento: "quando português atrapalha"...).
Since we are accostumed to the word "advogado", when we see the word "advocate" it triggers the Portuguese synonyms in our mind. At least in the initial phases of learning.
We even may see the word lawyer in some Thesaurus dictionary, but then we will see that as "proponent/proposer/campaigner/defender/supporter/sympathizer, etc" (so, more like someone that "advoga uma ideia/uma causa" in Portuguese.
Indeed others newspapers and news agencies had the headlines "NRA accuses gun-control advocates of exploiting FL shooting". That would explain almost completely matter at hand. But the "Journalese" (the lingo of newspapers and journalists) sums it up by using the minimum amount of words possible or acceptable. That happens because the headlines are only a "hook" (um gancho rápido), so the reader will read the whole news item afterwards.
