Cuidado com assaltantes = Watch out for muggers / Look out for muggers / Keep an eye out for muggers
On a side note, "many people were robbed there" sounds particularly appropriate if you are talking about a specific date or period of time in the past where robberies are known to have occurred. If you are being generic and not referring to a specific occasion, but rather to a common, current occurrence that continues to happen to this day, however, using the Present Perfect might be a more suitable option (many people have been robbed there).
