"Lame excuse" is a common expression, especially among young people. It's slang, of course, and it's been in use since at least the 1960s.

My excuse is lamer that yours, but his is the lamest of all.

My favorite is the young woman working as the receptionist, who after exhausting all other lame excuses, missed work yet again. When called to inquire why she hadn't come in to work, she blithely replied (and I swear this is TRUE)...

Existem deferentes maneiras de expressar a ideia acima. Uma maneira bem informal que gosto bastante seria: I just got home from work.

Nesse caso "I just came from my work."
