Enxergar além do cabresto é ser capaz de ver além do visível, enxergar além de uma situação.

Existe o ''think outside the box'' que pode se encaixar, mas será que existe outra expressão similar?

If you mean the metaphorical use of the expressions in Portuguese (with the word "horse blinkers" - viseira), something like this:

Alguém/pessoas que não enxergam um palmo à frente, que usam viseiras como cavalo, que não entendem o que se passa á sua volta, etc...

Then it would go like this:

Aside notes on this one:

-It would be a reference to a person that doesn´t see the big picture, a "blinkered dumbass", a stupid person, someone that can´t see the wood for the trees, etc...

-It would be generally thought as a non-polite expression, many people would take it as an insulting expression even (the proverbial "not a nice thing to say").
