Em Português: Matar a vaca para acabar com o carrapato. (*)
Em Inglês ......: Throw out the baby with the bath water.

“Throw out the baby with the bath water” is an idiomatic expression used to suggest an avoidable error in which something good is eliminated when trying to get rid of something bad. (Wikipedia)

Other way to say it: "It´s a case of medicine being worse than the disease/malady/ilness etc" curiously, the expression is in vogue these days, when they complain about the medicine prices, or about medicine that are sold on prescription or over-the-counter with side effects that make one think seriously about the necessity or the cost-benefit.

In the finance/economic talk, you can see more often the expression "the medicine that may kill the patient" or similar expressions.

Just make some search on Google, or other search engine.
