More often than not they name "street" or "(shopping) district'' to places with the given characteristics. "Street" is used everywhere, for example in Jamaica there´s the "King Street", in Rio you would have the Sahara district, and so on and so forth.


As for the streets destined to the nightly scene, party, drinking etc, one example one could cite would be the party disctric of Lapa.

Actually Santa Efigenia only exists in Sao Paulo. In the same way you can't say ir to someone in Brasilia or Salvador, I don't think there is a universal way of saying it in English.

PPAULO's option (High Street for the UK) is somewhat good, but not quite, since High Street is simply the main shopping road in a city or neighbourhood, not necessarily like 25 de Março (maybe it would be translated as "rua comercial" in Portuguese).

In New York, I think you could buy a knock-off Gucci purse in Chinatown, in London I guess that the Brás area is Camden Town, and in Tokyo the electronics district is Akihabara, but that's not necessarily going to be understood in other cities (just like Brás may not be understood in other parts of Brazil)

Você está correto mas o Brás,Santa Efigênia e 25 de março é muito conhecida no Brasil todo ,mas é obvio que algumas pessoas não vão conhecer esses locais.

China town está ótimo para mim,eu ví uma reportagem no descovery channel sobre perfumes falsificados e outras coisas em NYC e parece que é tudo de China Town.
