Should cost or Must cost?

Hello guys,

Quando usamos should com sentido de 'Dever' há alguma diferença significativa do must?

Ex > These cars SHOULD(must) cost too much

> ''That should be enough food for five people.''

x

Nesse caso o should é Dever e não 'Deveria'

I would have the following word choice:

These cars must cost too much.

-they certainly must cost no less than R$ 900,000, and would be perhaps one of these top fifteen most expensive cars sold in Brazil.

Okay, the grammar point is, you see one of those cars but you don´t know the price tag, then you guess (probability here) how much the car must cost. It´s some logical conclusion you reach, a kind of educated guess.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

''That should be enough food for five people.

Here I would use "should", because it expresses something that is problable or likely.
That is, one expects that "the food you had/has (on the cooking pot, the food stored, etc ) is/was expected to be enough to (feed) five people.

So, one is talking about likelyhood, of something that is expected.

This depends on your jugdement, what seems like enough to someone else could seem not enough to you. But then, the one that says that to you, is somehow "pushing" his point of view. He could be giving a order to you, or just saying that he/she expects that you make do with the available food.

Whereas with the car, it´s a logical guess. Certainly seeing one of those cars at the streets; you, the guy that made the statement, or pretty much everyone would agree that such cars cost too much.
