Ache for someone/something - Tradução em português

Olá,

eu estava lendo o livro The Kite Runner (na verdade, eu ainda estou lendo!!!) e encontrei ache for. Como eu estou penando com o vocabulário contido neste livro, comprei a edição em português, o famoso O Caçador de Pipas. O tradutor traduziu ache for como sentir saudade. Procurei e encontrei o seguinte:

ache for someone/something =to feel desire or regret about someone or something. I ache for home, the smell of bread baking, rain hitting the porch roof — even the smell of the hen house. We ache for the victims of war who have lost family, friends, and their homes.

Parece que to ache for realmente pode ser traduzido como sentir saudades, pelo menos, num sentido. Que vocês acham?

A propósito, hen house= galinheiro?
