Como dizer "...e não é que funcionou?" em inglês

Olá pessoal! 
Não sei se a minha dúvida é fácil, mas vamos lá.
Como se diz: "...e não é que funcionou?"
Essa frase tem o seguinte sentido: algo que você não acredita que vai funcionar (mas está fazendo apenas para desencargo de consciência), e... Funciona! Aí você fica surpreso por ter dado certo, e diz a tal frase.
Bom, é isso. Se alguém puder me ajudar nessa eu agradeço.

To my surprise it did work!
Interchangeable, sort of.
The first could be about something you are trying to work out at the time of speaking, the second about something you are giving an account (of something that was suggested to you, etc).

Yep, Moizevitch, you are right.
The difference is that in "Wow! It really worked!" (realmente funcionou!) you are amazed or surprised by something that something went well, operated, etc. Sometimes it's something (almost) unexpected, or you was doing something tentatively.
With "it did work" (funciounou sim!) it's a rebutal, you are 'refusing to accept' (or you are not "buying") what some has stated that it wouldn't work. Or you could be telling to another person that it worked even somebody else had told you that it wouldn't.
