Hi everyone...

Yesterday I cooked something for my boss and I meant to explain it didn't "rendeu" too much because of a lack of an ingredient, it was when I found out I didn't know how to say it, she suggested yield, it's the translation, here I found another expression. How would I use yield to explain the recipe didn't end up being too much, as much as I was expecting. She also mentioned "stretch" but I wouldn't know how to use it in this context either.

Sua pergunta não é clara o suficiente. Precisamos saber o que você quis dizer com "rendeu". Pode estar relacionado ao tamanho que ficou ou ao fato de não ter sido suficiente para todo mundo.

Maybe you have fallen in love with a word and want to use it for everything. Don't. "Yield" would sound odd in the above sentences. The concept of "to yield" is to give, surrender.

"To yield" is often used in conjunction with argriculture. A field yields a crop, a tree yields a fruit, etc. In recipes, you will often read "Yields ten servings." Do you see how in this sentence "yields" is used much like in the examples of a field, a tree?

O verbo original neste caso é "go far".

Ex.: One meal doesn't go far [não rende]for five people. Soup can last for a while if you make a big enough batch. - Yahoo. Canada
