Specialization is for insects.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

Dear all,
I'm very glad to know you also did not understand :P

Henry,
What is this "specialization" about?
(I hope I won't regret for asking this)

He's basically talking about the fact that humans can do all sorts of things, from learned behaviour, while insects are born with certain inherited capabilities, and can do no more. In other words, we're by nature non-specialized, while insects are.

easier than I thought... tks for explaining.

humans can do all sorts of things, from learned behaviour, while insects are born with certain inherited capabilities, and can do no more.

p.s.: that's why I'm not a specialist in English ;)

Seems to me you do pretty well. From the many tasks Heinlein mentions, I'm sorry to say I can only do a very few!
Cheers!
