"Actually El Cortecito was established by Mr. Cedeño from Higuey as a carpenters' spot (from Spanish, corte - cut). The first sand road was connecting Punta Cana International Airport and some hotels, passing just next to the Sea. The oldest building in Los Corales (where El Cortecito starts) is Pirata, the brown building where are three beach bars: Bamboo bar, Soles and Umi.

Cortecito has a lot of restaurants, Capitan Cook is most famous one, and lots of gift shops. El Cortecito ends, following the road, in Haiti Chiquito, are with a Haitian workers.

Cheap room rental can be found in Playa El Cortecito near supermarket (supermercado). Ask locals for advise. This is remarkable option, because most of Bavaro & Punta Cana area is dedicated to large hotels."
