'cos - Tradução em português
Saudações!
Pessoal,
De acordo com a minha pesquisa 'cos é uma abreviatura do Inglês Britânico que quer dizer because. É isso mesmo? E ser for porque se utiliza o apóstrofo antes (') da palavra?
Tive essa dúvida ao ler o seguinte texto:
It's a pity 'cos we've got lots of friends here and he's often too tired to go out.
Thanks!

This kind of tip is really important for students of English.Thomas escreveu:(...)
In AE or in BE, the use of 'cos and 'coz is substandard English, something to be understood but not imitated.
I speak American English (AE), not British English (BE). However, you appear to be right. As for the apostrophe ('), it is used often to indicate missing sounds and/or letters.
don't = do not
haven't = have not
The word 'cos is written with an apostrophe to show that the letters/sound be are missing; because.
In American English sometimes you will find coz. The meaning is the same: because.
