Sunday Times drops Huhne emails legal challenge
Paper drops opposition to police request to hand over emails relating to investigation into Chris Huhne and speeding claims.
The Sunday Times has dropped its opposition to a police request to hand over emails relating to an investigation into the energy secretary, Chris Huhne.
The high court was told the newspaper had reached agreement with Essex police and the Crown Prosecution Service over a production order.
The judges, Lord Justice Toulson and Mr Justice Cranston, ordered that details of the case must remain confidential pending the decision on whether or not to prosecute Huhne over an alleged speeding offence.
The case concerns emails between Vicky Pryce, Huhne's former wife, and Isabel Oakeshott, the Sunday Times political editor.
It follows allegations that the energy secretary asked his former wife to take speeding points for him – something he has strongly denied. It was announced late last year that prosecutors were "very close" to making a decision on whether or not to charge the energy secretary.
