And yet: Tradução e gramática

Hi, guys!
"Such a plan is obviously ridiculous and doomed to failure. AND YET, to claim that Jesus never existed, and the multiple appearances of the risen Jesus never happened, one would have to assume this very scenario occurred successfully in first century Jerusalem - a city with fewer people than Los Angeles! This is unlikely!"
Duas perguntas:
1. "And yet" não seria gramaticalmente redundante no texto?
2. Como posso traduzir aquele 'And yet"? Caberia um "E mais"? Pois o autor deu vários exemplos antes
