O que significa a Cereja do Bolo?

Alguma coisa boa que vem para complementar e para dar um toque ainda mais especial a algo que já era bom.

A expressão a cereja no bolo em inglês pode ser the cherry on the cake e the icing on the cake em British English. Em American English, usa-se the icing on the cake e the frosting on the cake. Aprenda como utilizá-las nos exemplos a seguir.
  • We had a beautiful day with our hosts at the beach, and the sunset boat ride was the frosting on the cake. [Nós tivemos um lindo dia com nossos anfitriões na praia, e o passeio ao pôr-do-sol de barco foi a cereja do bolo.]
  • The fabulous weather on the day was the cherry on the cake. [O clima fabuloso no dia foi a cereja no bolo.]
  • Meeting my favorite singer after the concert was the icing on the cake. [Conhecer meu cantor preferido depois do show foi a cereja do bolo.]

Por incrível que pareça, a opção the cherry on the cake não é comum no inglês americano. De uma forma geral, the cherry on the cake está sendo cada vez menos usada, mesmo em inglês britânico, apesar de ser, teoricamente, a opção mais óbvia e direta. Esse é mais um dos muitos casos em que o inglês desafia a lógica. Vai entender!
