Como dizer "chá de banco" em inglês

ah, Márcio, eu nunca tinha associado uma coisa com a outra!

sempre pensei em chá de cadeira qdo estamos ali na sala de espera do médico, ou então na entrevista de emprego, e principalmente esperando pra falar com o gerente do banco!!

Tem muito a ver, Flavia. Originalmente a frase empregava-se para aqueles que ficavam uma dança toda sem que alguém quisesse dançar ou o/a chamasse para dançar. Hoje empregam a expressão para significar qualquer longa espera quer pra dançar, quer na fila do banco, quer em qualquer fila de espera.

No caso de ficar uma festa inteira sem que ninguém a/o tire para dançar, temos "sit out a dance".

tomar chá de cadeira = to be a wallflower

Mas meus dicionários monolíngues dizem que 'to be a wallflower' é ficar "sobrando" numa festa, não ter com quem dançar. O que uma coisa tem a ver com a outra?

A últ. tradução saiu estranha. Errei em alguma coisa.

Onde se lê: "Não vou ficar levando chá de cadeira para ver os B's e os Flyers" leia-se: "Mal posso esperar pra levar chá cadeira vendo os B's..."
