A estrutura "Pronome pessoal + would + rather" exige o verbo seguinte no infinitivo. Neste caso, o correto é dizer "I'd rather live"

São ótimas opções para frases como
"Se bem que eu não sabia o que estava fazendo"
"Then again, I didn't know what I was doing"
(On second thought se encaixa tão bem quanto aqui)
