When we want to talk about how often things happen, there are several adverbs we can use:
always
usually
often
sometimes
seldom
rarely
never

These adverbs usually go before the main verb.
I always meet him on my way to school.

When the verb is to be, the adverbs come after the verb.
He is always very late.

Never has a negative meaning, and we can say either:
we will never go to that restaurant
or
we won't ever go to that restaurant.

We do not use sometimes with the negative.
We can use ever for general questions.
Have you ever been to Italy?

These adverbs come after ordinary modals like can, must, shall, may, etc.
You can sometimes see the island from that hill.
