NOTES:
(1) Ellie Jane Goulding was born on December 30, 1986 in Hereford, England. She is a singer and songwriter. She won a singing competition while in college, and went on to win the 'Brit Awards' with her signature brand of "folktronica" music following the release of her debut EP 'An Introduction to Ellie Goulding'. She immediately made an impact with her unique soprano voice.
In 2009, she signed a contract with Polydor Records. Her first single was Under the Sheets, released by the independent label Neon Gold Record – a way to avoid pressure early in her career. The song reached the radio and became one of the most played. In 2010, the artist released her first studio album, entitled Lights. At that time, Goulding was already being considered by critics as a promising name in the music world.
The pop star's debut album revealed the single Starry Eyed, which quickly took the top positions in the UK charts. At the end of 2010, the singer re-released her first material, this time called Bright Lights. The work opened with a re-recording of Elton John's hit Your Song. The album also featured the re-release of the title track of its predecessor, Lights, which also had a music video. The song reached second place on the US singles chart.
In 2011, it was the artist's turn to release her second album, called Halcyon. The material was promoted by songs such as Hanging On, I Know You Care and Beating Heart, but the real hit was Love Me Like You Do. The track, which reached the top of the charts in several countries, was part of the soundtrack for the film Fifty Shades of Grey. In the second half of 2015, Ellie Goulding released her third album, called Delirium. The project's flagship single, Only My Mind was played on radio stations around the world.
In 2019, Goulding has released a new track, In This Together, a companion to the new Netflix original documentary series Our Planet. The music video for the inspiring number features wildlife footage from the series, including shots of young painted wolves, elephants bathing and penguins gathered on a beach. The official soundtrack to Our Planet is out now via Decca Records/Universal and features a score by Academy-award winning composer Steven Price (Gravity, Wonder Park) and Goulding’s song, which was co-written by her and Price. The score was performed by the London Philharmonia Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.
(2) Steven Price was born on April 22, 1977 in Nottingham, England. He is a composer best known for scoring Gravity, which won him the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Gravity is a 2013 science fiction thriller film directed by Alfonso Cuarón, who also co-wrote, co-edited, and produced the film. It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as American astronauts who attempt to return to Earth after the destruction of their Space Shuttle in orbit.
Price began his career in 1996. His instruments of work are the piano, keyboards and guitar. He contributed to productions such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Batman Begins, before making his scoring debut in 2011 with Joe Cornish’s inner-city horror comedy, Attack the Block. Recent years have seen him compose distinctive scores for Michael Grandage’s My Policeman, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and the Oscar nominated Netflix Animation Over the Moon.
His work in the Natural History realm, working alongside Sir David Attenborough on The Hunt (for which Price won a Bafta in 2016), the Netflix Original Our Planet (nominated for two score Emmys), and the autobiographical documentary, David Attenborough - A Life on our Planet (for which Price won a Primetime Emmy in 2021), continues in 2023 with new performances of his arena spectacular, Our Planet live in Concert, a show which has toured both Europe and the US since its debut in October 2022.
