I've seen the expression used on its own :
- Let's get to the nitty-gritty.
Meaning: Let's get to the details.

Gostaria de compartilhar a ótima explicação do Bryan sobre a expressão nitty-gritty.
Could I say "in a nitty-gritty details" to ask about the details of something?
Bryan Philpott escreveu:11 Jun 2022, 02:43 I don't think it's used in requests/questions that much...maybe in a phrase like:

"Can you please explain this to me, I want to understand it down to the nitty-gritty details..."

It's an adjective here so the article goes with details:

"the nitty-gritty details"

"a nitty-gritty detail"

But nitty-gritty is also a noun on its own:

"Let's not get into the nitty-gritty."

Frequently used with "get into the nitty gritty" or "get down to the nitty gritty" as in the examples here:
Ref. collinsdictionary

An adverbial phrase:
"He explained what happened in nitty gritty detail."
Best,
