Uso do "by"

By (por, ao lado de, pelo, pela, etc...).

As principais formas de uso do by é:

por "meio de transportes":
I'll go by car.
she went by bus.

por "autoria":
this book was written by Machado de Assis.
the movie was directed by Steven Spielberg.

outros exemplos do uso:

step by step.(passo a passo).
they left one by one.(eles sairam um por um).
I'll be here again by the end of the year.(estarei aqui de novo pelo fim do ano).
she went by herself.(ela foi sozinha).
I swear by God.(Eu juro por Deus).
by heart.(de cor).
by mail.(pelo correio).
sit here by me.(sente aqui ao meu lado).
by day/night.(de dia/noite).
by my watch. (segundo meu relógio).
by working hard (à custa de muito trabalho).
