Do you see anything wrong (or right) with "debate moderator"?
Both would be understood, Marcio. Only that "moderator" is a terser way, and most of the time they don´t like being wordy.
The first mention, in an isolated way, they might say something like "presidential/vice presidential debate mediator", then they would use just "moderator".

Moderator: Martha Raddatz (ABC News Chief Foreign Correspondent)
The moderator will ask an opening question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a discussion of the question.
