Against the law, illicit, illegal.
Não sei se verboten serve para definir ilícito . Acho que é só proibido, mas não necessariamente contra a lei. Mas não sou expert, vamos esperar pela opinião dos mais experientes. :)

It may and it may not, depends on the context. In general it have to do with prohibition.

Anyway, there are several gradations of prohibition, as an example, a taboo is different of a banning or a veto.

I mean, in a way a taboo is a psychological no-no, not a banning by physical force/coercion. When I was a kid it was taboo to eat mango and drink milk, so when we saw a guy being given a mango smoothie with milk, we waited to the guy drop dead on spot! Now we know best! he he.
