Context-wise, you could also expressed it with something like this:

Why didn´t you let me know you couldn´t come?
Why didn´t you let me know something had come up? (you should have phoned me/us. -you should have called me.)

Less usual, but not impossible: why don´t you deigned to call me and let me know something had come up? (deign - se dignar/ter a bondade/fazer o favor...)

And...
For shame! How could you?
How could you do such a thing?
How could you do that to the team/to the guest? Etc... (I think "to yourself" would suit in the case of something that would make him/her lose the job.)
