First of all, sorry to post on this topic after a long time, after almost 1 year, but in my humble opinion this expression will help to improve our vocabulary a wee bit. I was surprised by the Idiom because I've never seen it before (and I hope that others also), so I decided to share this with you guys.

I was reading the news on the Manchester United's website and the manager of the team, Sir Alex Fergusson, said:

"(...) To have an obsession to win it, you stretch yourself a wee bit. I had an obsession for a bit, when I lost a few semi-finals. You say to yourself you're never going to do it. When we did it in Barcelona, it was the greatest feeling of all time and it took the monkey off our back."

Source: The Free Dictionary says that "a monkey on s/b back" is a serious problem that the person cannot forget.
