Acquainted x Known x Familiar: Qual é a diferença?

Vendo séries eu conheci a palavra Acquainted que a tradução deu "familiar"(alguém conhecido), mas eu conhecia a palavra Known por significar "Familiar". Também conheci a palavra Familiar que é uma palavra que não muda a escrita do inglês para o português.
Enfim, qual a diferença entre elas?

They are sometimes interchangeable. But okay, let's go to the likely differences you might find in your readings/studies etc:
Known - something or someone identified as in a specific category, that stands out from the rest (and the 'rest' acknowledges it) - renowned, famous.
Known is also said of something "accepted", as in "known rules/know treatment", etc.
Acquainted - personally known, familiar. Can be also be used in the sense of "getting the hang of/getting used to" (usually for being exposed to or by training etc) as in "after living in Rio de Janeiro for a year, John got acquainted with the new culture." (meaning "got familiar with the aspects of the new culture").
Familiar - is (usually) something that is known to one person, whereas "known" is something more widespread.
Anyway, when we talk about an artist being a "household name" it may emcompass both concepts, you know that person 'in such a way' that it becomes familiar as if living in your house, at the same time the star is known by 'everyone' in the country, the world, etc.
