Draw the line: Como utilizar?

I was studying the expression "draw the line" and I got a little bit confused, how can I use it in the past tense?

To be honest I'm still trying to understand in the present tense, I understand the meaning, my doubt is how to use it.

Can somebody help me with some examples?
