E qual é a diferença real do "jeans e do Denim"? Afinal, qual é a diferença?

The usual would be "denim shorts", many people make a distinction between them, so the cloth would be denim.
Thus, jeans would be pants, and denim would be the material of which pants, shirts, bags, purses, skirts etc, are made.
Of course, you could express 'jean pants' also as 'denim pants' but the others shouldn't be called so.
For example, "denim shirts" should not be called "jean shorts", that's why sites like H&M, searched on Google will lead you to the pictures with the caption denim shorts.
In Brazil, many don't know this distinction, and even in many English-speaking countries, people may use them interchangeably.
By the way, there's cotton jeans (jeans made of cotton), denim is a by-product of cotton.

"DAISY-DUKES".
"very short trousers that end just below the hip, made from jeans that have been cut short".

Yep, usually (very short) cut-off jean shorts. The ones the character Daisy-dukes used in the TV show Dukes of Hazzard.
Wikipedia has an article where it calls them "Denim cut-off shorts" as well. It seems like the description goes with the focus, before or after the cutting off of the jeans.

Pessoal, me deparei com DENIM no seguinte contexto:
Vs China: The Battle for Bitcoin Mining Supremacy | WSJ" no Youtube.
"...and its rival is on the other side of the planet at a former factory that used to make denim for Levi's."

This explanation below makes perfect sense:
The difference between denim and jeans is that denim is a fabric that is made by spinning cotton fibre into yarn, dyeing it with indigo, and then further weaving it to make a cloth. Jeans are a kind of garment generally made from denim cloth. (askanydifference.com)
Bons estudos.
