Significado de "hang the clothes out"

Hey guys,
I would like to know the meaning in Port. Of this: "hang the clothes out"
E.g.:

"Yesterday, in the afternoon, I did the washing and hung the clothes out."

Does the preposition out after the object produce a different effect of sense in the sentence?
