Hi guys, I have a question. Why sometimes riding down means descendo and others no. In the same way can you explain to me how recognize the correct meaning? For example.
He is riding down Juca's Street. In this example means descendo.
Buut...if the statement is: While driving down the Street...what's the meaning?
Well i don't know when the word down refers to "descer"...
That's it!

Você vai saber se está se referindo a "descer" ou não pelo contexto. Não há uma regra. Ao se deparar com estas expressões você vai ter que procurar interpretar a situação e ver o que se quis dizer no contexto.

DOWN and UP are often used in English to mean "along, through, etc."
I drove up John's street. = I drove up John's street. (I drove on John's street.)
There is no difference in meaning UNLESS the listener/reader has been made aware of a difference in altitude, elevation, etc.
If you say "I rode up/down John's street", by the way, the implication is that you were NOT the driver, that you were a passenger. If you were the driver, then "I drove up/down..."
Oddly, sometimes these prepositions have meanings that are cultural.
down = towards the south
out = towards the west
up = towards the north
back = towards the east
When Jill lived in Kansas, she drove back (or up) to New York.
From Atlanta, we went out to California.
Down in Florida, it gets hot in the summer.
Up in Vermont, it can get very cold.
