Como dizer "chegar longe (em alguma coisa)" em inglês

Olá pessoal.

Como digo: "chegar longe/ir longe em alguma coisa"?

Pesquisando na internet descobri as seguintes expressões:

She could go a long way in politics
I think we showed we have potential and proved we could go a long way.
With practice and dedication we are able to get very far.
The key will be the group stage - if that goes well, we can go far.

Mas ainda assim, não sei se elas correspondem ao que eu quero. Eu gostaria de dizer algo como:

"Eu cheguei/fui muito muito longe para ter que desistir agora."
"Ela chegou muito longe no Japonês (idioma)."
