First the pattern:
With whom did you go to the movies?
Formal, hence grammatical way, some people would say boring way ha ha ha.
Who did you go with to the movies? (more on the speaking side, so it´s accepted in spoken English.)
And back to the crux, to the initial question:
Who did you hang out with yesterday? (again in informal/spoken English - here could be that you went to a place and socialized with a person or a crowd, it doesn´t matter which.)
And other ways, I´ll leave it to others to complement, improve or correct this answer.

Yes "who were you last night with?" would be fine.
But somehow in daily conversations in some settings, one of these could be more usual:
Who was that chick that was with you last night?
Who was that chick with you last night?
Who was that chick you were with last night?
'cause you got some explainin' too, who was that chick I saw with you? (Houston, we have a problem here?)
Who was that guy last night?
Who was that guy sitting next to you last night?
Who the hell was the guy last night? (grrrr! ) - guy with a temper detected!
Hey, who was that guy you were with last night?
