- The american military intervention in afghanistan was, in some way, in reprisal/retaliation for the terrorist attacks of september eleventh
(A intervenção militar americana no Afeganistão foi de certo modo em represália aos ataques terroristas de onze de setembro)
And by thw way guys, how about saying "The american military intervention in afghanistan was somewhat in reprisal/retaliation for the terrorist attacks of september eleventh" Can I use somewhat in this way? I'm not too confident of using it.

Paulo, I don't think the commas are necessary when you use 'somewhat' in that context. Ex:PPAULO escreveu:The American military intervention in Afghanistan was, someway/somewhat/somehow, in reprisal/retaliation for the terrorist attacks of September eleventh.
He was somewhat taken aback by her reaction. = in some measure, a little, etc.

Well noticed indeed. I had thought of the meaning, that is, it could be used the three: someway, somewhat or somehow. Anyway, it´s a good thing that you noticed. Thanks for the teamwork, two heads are better than one!
